How to dress quiet luxury in Singapore

Quiet luxury is not a logo or a price tag. It is clothing you notice only when you look closely: the weight of the fabric, the way a shoulder falls, a patch that matches the colour of the piece.

In Singapore, where days move from air-conditioned offices to hawker centres to gallery openings, the idea works well. You want one outfit that does not change its mind about the day.

1. Start with fabric

Heavy, dense cotton holds its shape and looks calmer than thin, shiny fabric. When a piece has weight, it hangs well and needs no styling tricks.

2. Keep the palette small

Black, cream and white go with each other. A small palette means every piece works with every other piece, so you get more outfits from fewer clothes.

3. Let the fit do the work

Oversized does not mean sloppy. A dropped shoulder and a boxy body look deliberate when the rest of the outfit is quiet. Pair a volume piece with a slimmer one: a roomy hoodie with a straight-leg sweatpant, or a tee under an open jacket.

4. Remove the noise

No large prints. Small, tone-on-tone details such as a woven patch or embroidered mark are enough. If someone has to read your shirt from across the room, it is not quiet.

5. Build one repeatable outfit

Pick a hoodie or jacket, a tee and a sweatpant. Wear them in different orders through the week. When the pieces are good, repeating them looks intentional.

At LYU, every piece is made to order from heavyweight cotton with clean cuts and quiet details, so that is the idea we build around.

Felt, not seen.
